Monday, 3 February 2025, the ArchaeoSciences Platform within the Research Institute of the University of Bucharest (ICUB) invites you to a new event in the ArchaeoSciences Round Tables series, which aims to foster interdisciplinary dialogue between Archaeology and Genetics.
The event will feature a special guest, Dr. Mircea Iliescu, a researcher at the University of Cambridge, UK, and a visiting professor at ICUB for the 2025-2026 academic year. Dr. Iliescu is renowned for his significant contributions to the field of population genomics and has also collaborated on projects in palaeogenetics. Joining him at the event will be geneticists, archaeologists, bioarchaeologists, and other specialists from the University of Bucharest, as well as from other institutions across the country, who are active in the fields of genetics, palaeogenetics or are interested in collaborations in these areas.
Organisational details
The event will take place in hybrid format on Monday, 3 February 2025, starting with 12:00 at the Research Platform in Biology and Systems Ecology, Faculty of Biology, University of Bucharest, Splaiul Independenței, No. 91-95 (entrance from Str. Bogdan Petriceicu Hașdeu), ground floor conference room.

Objectives of the round table
- Exploring current collaborations in the field of palaeogenetics and identifying ongoing projects in Romania.
- Identifying professional training opportunities for master’s students, PhD candidates, and postdoctoral researchers from Romania in prestigious laboratories abroad.
- Develop joint research projects between institutions in Romania and explore the prospects of establishing palaeogenetics laboratories in the country.
- Discussions on the perspectives and challenges of research in palaeogenomics and how this field can contribute to understanding the history and diversity of populations in Romania and Europe.
The event is open to all those interested in this fascinating field – students, researchers, academics, and professionals from various interdisciplinary areas. It is an excellent opportunity to participate in thought-provoking discussions, learn from the expertise of leading specialists, and contribute to the formation of a strong academic network.
