Through project SMARTT, the University of Bucharest is the only university in Romania involved at strategic level in the project of the future European university degrees
Monday, April 29th 2024, the CIVIS Alliance and Universite Libre de Bruxelles will host, starting 9 AM CET, the final event aimed at disseminating the results of European projects dedicated to European degrees and legal entities for the new European Universities.
Organized by project SMARTT and the European Commission in cooperation with the other pilot projects dedicated to the two strategic themes, the event represents an opportunity for decision factors, people in the academia, administrative staff of higher education institutions, students and representatives of the business environment to engage in discussions regarding the measures necessary to transform European degrees and the entities of European Universities into reality.
Persons who wish to participate to the meeting online have the chance to register by Wednesday, April 24th 2024. The registration will be completed successfully only after having received a confirmation e-mail, which will include connectivity details.
Developed by the European CIVIS Alliance, in partnership with the alliances of European Universities EUTOPIA, NEUROTECHEU and UNITA, next to other 29 institutions of higher education and 15 European and national stakeholders, SMARTT was chosen by the European Commission as a pilot-project for the future European degrees.
At the same time, the blueprint of pilot-projects for the future European Degrees adopted Wednesday, March 27th 2024, will also be presented during the conference.
The University of Bucharest in the only university in Romania that coordinates, along the Autonomous University in Madrid, one of the 6 strategic projects for designing and implementing European Degrees, SMARTT (Screening, Mapping, Analysing, Recommending, Transferring and Transforming higher education international programmes).
UB is, through professor Romiță Iucu, PhD, president of the UB Board of Trustees, next to the Autonomous University in Madrid and the CIVIS European Alliance, coordinator of the SMARTT project. Among the international partners associated in the project we can mention some universities and institutions in Romania, such as the West University in Timișoara, ˮIuliu Hațieganu” University of Medicine and Pharmacy in Cluj-Napoca and the Agency for Ensuring Quality in Higher Education (ARACIS).
The active presence of the University of Bucharest in what concerns the transformation and innovation of the European academic space is due to an extended team of experts involved in different dialogue and construction components in the area of educational policies in higher education: professor Romiță Iucu, PhD, coordinator of the SMARTT project and of the Subgroup for the European Degree within FOR EU (the representation group of all 50 European university alliances within the European Commission), associate professor Sorin Costreie, PhD, president of the UNICA network (Network of Universities from the Capitals of Europe) and coordinator of the CIVIS Alliance at the University of Bucharest, professor Lucian Ciolan, PhD, vice-rector for Development Projects and Lifelong Learning of the University of Bucharest, and professor Anca Nedelcu, PhD, vice-dean of the Faculty of Psychology and Education Sciences.
Already at present, the University of Bucharest is developing, next to its partners in the CIVIS European Alliance, new common study programs with a strong inter- and trans-disciplinary character, which will include new civic engagement projects, challenge-based learning, integrated mobility and the connection with current global crises. Thus, on themes such as climate change, south-European studies biochemistry research, cultural and societal studies, urban development and its crises, technological transformation and its implications, the University of Bucharest will launch, in the near future, new joint study programs, with multiple and joint degrees, in partnership with other European universities members of the Alliance, for all three levels of study, Bachelor’s, Master’s and PhD.
