In the context of the anniversary of the 160 years since the founding of the University of Bucharest, between July 8th – 9th 2024, UB will organize the conference Excellence (also) at feminine in UB. Towards an inclusive history of UB personalities.
The event will take place, starting 9AM, in hybrid format, in the Ion Mihăilescu amphitheater of the Rectorate of the University of Bucharest and also online, on the Google Meet platform.
The conference is dedicated to the recovery and revalorizing of the contribution of women to the academic life in general and particularly in the academic life of the University of Bucharest. The event has at its ground an initiative of the Gender Equality Plan of the University of Bucharest and is conceived by a group of specialists from the Faculty of History, together with an interdisciplinary team coming from various faculties – the Faculties of Letters, Foreign Languages and Literatures, Biology, Sociology and Social Work – and from the Museum of the University of Bucharest.
The organizing committee includes professor Laura Grünberg, PhD, teaching staff at the Faculty of Sociology and Social Work of the University of Bucharest, and associate professor Florentina Niţu, teaching staff at the UB Faculty of History.
Interdisciplinary research of institutional history and from the perspective of the contribution of women to the excellence and performance of academia, but also to the general life and well-being of the institution in different epochs and settings is, first of all, a necessity, considering the fact that, nowadays, at least in terms of numbers, UB is a strongly feminized institution. On the other hand, the conference is a good opportunity to: rethink, at a larger scale, the concept of excellence, through an inclusive approach of behaviors, achievements and values related to meritocracy, academic performance; initiate programs of interdisciplinary research regarding the gender dimension of the university in general; prepare the ground for constructing a written and visual speech in a more inclusive and balanced manner, based on interdisciplinary scientific research, regarding the history of the University of Bucharest.
