Vice-rector of the University of Bucharest starting 2016 and dean of the Faculty of Political Science during 2010 and 2016, Professor Laurențiu Vlad, Ph.D. is specialized in The History of Romania, 19th to 20th centuries (the imagology of the construction of the national identity, cultural diplomacy) and in The history of mentalities, of political ideas and of ideologies (conservationism, the European idea). During July 2016 and January 2017, he was a secretary of state for the Ministry of National Education and Scientific Research.
Professor Laurențiu Vlad is a doctor in history of the South-East European Study Institute of the Romanian Academy (1999). DEA (Histoire et Civilisations) la École des Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales (EHESS), Paris (1994). He has had several study / specialization / research internships in Athens (the Centre for Neo-Hellenic Studies, the Leventis Foundation / Copernicus Scholar and Leventis – October 1993 to January 1994 and January 2015), in Brussels (Université Libre de Bruxelles / Tempus Scholar and Wallonie-Bruxelles Government Scholar, October 2000, October – November 2005, February 2006), in Paris (EHESS / Maison de Sciences de l’Hommme / The French Government and Fernand Braudel Scholar – 1992-1993, January to March 1995, October to December 1996, February to May 1999, October to December 2007) and in Strasbourg (Université Robert Schuman / Tempus Scholar – April 1995).
During 1991 and 2016, he was a scientific researcher at the South-East European Study Institute of the Romanian Academy, where he also held the position of member in the Scientific Council (2010-2011), as well as in the Romanian Diplomatic Institute (2006-2011). Beginning 2012 he is member of the Editorial College of the University of Bucharest Publishing House and coordinator of the collection entitled “Mentalities, Historical Anthropology, Cultural History” of the European Institute of Iaşi Publishing House. He is also a member of the editorial committees of the magazines Annals of the University of Bucharest – Political Sciences Series, Archives of Oltenia, Historical Anthropology Notes, Studia Universitatis Babeș-Bolyai. Historia, Xenopoliana.
He published over 15 authored books (with revised and enlarged editions) or in collaboration, edited volumes (and re-edited) or anthologies (sole editor / collaborations) published with prestigious national and international publishing houses, almost 100 articles / studies published in collective volumes or in specialised magazines, both local and abroad (Bulgaria, France, the USA).
