Between March 16-18, 2023, the Faculty of Foreign Languages and Literatures of the University of Bucharest co-organized, together with the Delegation of the Government of Catalonia in South-Eastern Europe and the “Ramon Llull” Institute in Barcelona, a series of events dedicated to the anniversary of 30 years of teaching the Catalan language at the University of Bucharest
Thus, on Thursday, March 16, 2023, an anniversary event took place at the University House of the University of Bucharest. The inaugural session was attended by assoc. prof. Mugur Zlotea, PhD, Vice-Rector for Students and Internationalization; H.E. Mr. Eric Hauck, delegate of the Government of the Generality of Catalonia in South-Eastern Europe; Ariadna Puiggené, director of the Languages and Universities Section of the “Ramon Llull” Institute, and assoc. prof. Laura Sitaru, PhD, dean of the Faculty of Foreign Languages and Literatures of the University of Bucharest.
Given that the academic year 2022-2023 marks 30 years since Catalan studies were officially established at the FLLS of the UB, a summary of the three decades of Catalan studies at the UB was presented by the prof. Oana-Dana Balaș, PhD, vice-dean for Study Programs and Internships; prof. Mianda Cioba, PhD, director of the Department of Romance, Classical and Neo-Greek Languages and Literatures and the teaching staff of the Catalan studies.
Subsequent, there was the presentation of the book Casa meua, casa voastra: català i romanés en contrast, signed by Vicent Beltran, professor at the University of Alicante in Spain. The event, moderated by lect. Paul Buzilă, PhD, from the Department of Romance, Classical and Neo-Greek Languages and Literatures, enjoyed the virtual participation of the author. Also, Jana Balacciu Matei, translator from Catalan and editor at Meronia Publishing House, spoke to the audience about the reception of Catalan literature in Romania. At the end, the audience attended the concert “Cançons de fer camí” (“Songs of the road”). On Friday and Saturday, March 17 and 18, 2023, UB and the “Ramon Llull” Institute organized a training course for professors of Catalan studies in universities in Central and Eastern Europe, attended by professors of Catalan studies, as well as by Romanian students. The course was opened by prof. Ileana Ratcu, PhD, vice dean of the Faculty of Foreign Languages and Literatures, together with prof. Mianda Cioba, PhD, E.S.
