Information regarding financial support to international students at the University of Bucharest (BA, MA, PhD – from EU third countries)
The University of Bucharest grants the following categories of financial support to international students:
- a) Financial support for academic performance to students enrolled in bachelor’s degree and master’s degree studies for a maximum of 10% of the total number of international students paying in foreign currency, enrolled at the University of Bucharest for bachelor’s and master’s studies, in the academic year preceding the scholarships;
- b) Financial support for academic performance to students enrolled in PhD studies for a maximum of 15% of the total number of international foreign students paying in foreign currency, enrolled at the University of Bucharest for PhD studies in the academic year preceding the awarding of scholarships;
- c) Financial support for nationals of developing countries for up to 10 international students paying fees in foreign currency;
The financial support is granted to citizens of EU third countries, payers of study fees in foreign currency, who have graduated at least one year of bachelor’s degree, master’s degree or PhD studies at the University of Bucharest.
The financial support for academic performance is granted to international students enrolled in BA and MA studies, depending on the academic results of the previous year of study at the University of Bucharest.
The selection criterion is the hierarchical position of the student in the ranking related to his specialization, transformed into a percentage of 100% of the total number of students enrolled in that major.
The financial support granted is a 50% reduction in the tuition fee in the following academic year.
Financial support for academic performance is granted to international students enrolled in PhD studies, depending on the number of scientific articles published in journals indexed Web of Science, (for the exact sciences and life, environment and earth sciences); Web of Science or SCOPUS, (for social sciences) and ISI/Thomson Reuters, Elsevier/Scopus, Ebsco, (for humanities), with the indication of the affiliation of PhD candidate at the University of Bucharest.
The financial support granted is the equivalent of the performance scholarship/month, at the value approved by the Senate of the University for the next academic year for students.
The financial support for nationals from developing countries is granted to international students who have the citizenship of one of the developing countries and who have the average of studies of the previous year attended at the University of Bucharest of at least 7.
The financial support granted is a 50% reduction in the tuition fee in the following academic year.
Procedure for granting financial support
All types of financial support are granted at the request of students, under their own signature.
Documents:
- a) scholarship application request (Appendix 2);
- b) statement on one’s own responsibility that it no longer benefits from any type of scholarship/financial support (Appendix 3);
- c) the identity document attesting the belonging to a EU third country or a developing country;
- d) the transcript for the years of study completed within the University of Bucharest;
- e) letter of recommendation from a professor.
The submission of the application files for the financial support takes place in July of the academic year preceding the one for which the application is made, at the Office for International Cooperation and Foreign Students (BCISS), according to an established calendar.
The evaluation of the files is performed by an Evaluation Commission appointed by the Rector of the University of Bucharest.
The financial support is granted during the academic year, for a maximum duration of 9 months (October – June), for the academic year for which it was requested.
Financial support is not granted to foreign citizens with dual citizenship, of which one from a non-EU state and one Romanian/from a member state of the European Union.
In case there is equality between the candidates, the differentiation will be made considering the grade obtained at the final examination of the studies from the previous study cycle.
A student cannot benefit from two types of financial support/scholarships from the University of Bucharest or the Romanian state (intergovernmental scholarships).
Students who have requested the interruption of studies for one semester or more semesters may benefit from a scholarship based on the results obtained in the last year before the interruption.
The financial support is suspended for the period in which the beneficiaries are leaving the country, regardless of who finances the respective departures.
