On Wednesday, January 12, 2022, CIVIS organizes the webinar “Multidisciplinary approach for next-generation colorectal cancer management”. Speaker within the event will be Bianca Gălățeanu, PhD, Lecturer and Scientific Researcher in the University of Bucharest, Faculty of Biology, Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology.
The event, part of the “Cups & Cakes” Web Seminars, will take place on Zoom between 12:00-13:00 (CET).
Despite the huge progress made in the last years concerning diagnostic and therapy in colorectal cancer, there still are steps to be done to overcome the current prognosis in patients with late-stage disease. In this view, the joint work of the physicians together with engineers and researchers from various field of science led to the development of cutting-edge precision oncology tools as well as a personalized approach of the patient. Consequently, the development of the in vitro disease modeling concept, the design of genuine nanosized biomaterials for drug delivery systems, the use of robotics in surgery and artificial intelligence (machine learning, deep learning neural networks, etc.) in diagnostic, combined with modern prognostic and therapy modulation tools such as liquid biopsy, hold a great promise to improve patient’s survival and quality of life. In this presentation, I will guide you through a journey that starts in the research lab with: disease modelling, design and development of drug delivery systems or artificial intelligence algorithms optimization and ends up at the patient’s bed site with new diagnostic tools and targeted therapy.
Bianca Gălățeanu, PhD is a Lecturer and Scientific Researcher in the University of Bucharest, Faculty of Biology, Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology. She graduated from the University of Bucharest with a Bachelor Degree in Biochemistry (2005) and holds a Master Degree in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (2007). She defended her PhD in 2012 and then also studied Pharmacy at the University of Medicine and Pharmacy “Carol Davila” from Bucharest (2014). More details about Bianca Gălățeanu and her scientific interests are available here and here.
This event is open to the public. Please contact Julie Hyzewicz for more information.
CIVIS has been established as a University that reaches from the local level to the international dimension, focused on responding to local needs, contributing to regional development strategies and addressing global challenges. The development of Research and Innovation (R&I), as an integral component of its educational mission, has been part of the CIVIS mission from the very beginning.
It is in this perspective that RIS4CIVIS has been elaborated and now operates. The overall objective is to produce an integrated, long-term R&I Strategy that, will over time enable the constituent members of the CIVIS European University to seamlessly integrate their know-how, expertise and resources in the service of Research and Innovation that effectively addresses current and future societal challenges, at local, regional and international level.
As part of the activities developed to reach this objective, the Cups&Cakes meetings aim to create a discussion forum for researchers to connect and get an overview of what is happening in other partner universities on a specific topic. In the longer term, these exchanges also aim to foster exchanges and develop potential collaborations within the CIVIS Alliance.
These Cups&Cakes arescheduled for one hour and consist of two phases:
– A 40-minutes presentation of current research work chosen by the speaker (including a 5-minute introduction of general expertise and work in progress within the university on the topic of interest).
– Open discussion of about 20 minutes.
Each partner University, in turns, will have the opportunity to present to the CIVIS Community a subject of their research.
