In the 2023-2024 school year, the “Virtue et Sapientia” Foundation of the University of Bucharest (UB), through the Educational Support for Disadvantaged Pupils (SEED) program, supports the third generation of pupils from both Bucharest and other counties of the country: Ilfov, Vrancea, Olt, Cluj and Neamț.
Thus, with the support of the partners of the “Virtute et Sapientia” Foundation of the University of Bucharest, the 30 SEED pupils received, at the beginning of the school year, school bags and new supplies. In addition to these, older pupils received annual scholarships, laptops, printers, wireless headsets, various collections and books as well as free accommodation in UB dormitories. All these were received with great joy and enthusiasm by the SEED pupils. These are in addition to the constant support provided by the professors, mentors and activity coordinators within the University of Bucharest in preparation for the National Exams. They will help them discover their full potential and motivate them to make steady progress throughout the school year from their initial assessment.
On Saturday, September 30, 2023, the official opening of the SEED program for the 3rd series of pupils, of the “Virtute et Sapientia” Foundation of the University of Bucharest, took place. The online meeting was attended by all pupils from the 3-program series, members of the UB management, activity coordinators, professors, mentors and other volunteers.
“My message goes to the older pupils in SEED, those who have now passed the 9th and 10th grades: the focus will be on the personal development workshops coordinated by Marian Crăciun and Georgiana Ioniță. If you want to perform in a certain discipline, you can do so with us”, noted prof. Magdalena Iordache-Platis, PhD, vice-rector for Quality Management, Social Responsibility and Relations with Social Partners of the University of Bucharest.
The launch event was a dynamic one, encouraging interaction between the pupils of the first series and those of the third generation. The pupils also had the opportunity to interact with future mentors who will guide them throughout this school year.
“This meeting, meeting you, means a lot, dear pupils. We are professors, students, who wanted to be involved with the pupils precisely in order to look ahead, to the future with a lot of trust in you”, added prof. Laura Ciolan, PhD, teaching staff at the Faculty of Psychology and Educational Sciences of the University of Bucharest. Also, the members of the Inclusion, Equity and Equal Opportunities Office are involved in the activities of the program, along with volunteers from the Foundation. They, in addition to the support activities offered to UB students, also deal with the administrative dimension of some activities intended for pupils (granting scholarships, offering packages for holidays and other occasions, selection of eligible students for the program, etc.).
“The 28 pupils from the first series obtained very good results at the end of the school year. The second group of SEED pupils (26 pupils) achieved very good results in the National Exams, with more than half of the pupils’ averages being above 8.50. I would like to welcome those from the third series among us and I am sure that everything will be very good and that they will be involved”, says Liviu Nițu, head of the Inclusion, Equity and Equal Opportunities Office of the University of Bucharest.
