Partnership between the University of Bucharest and Infosys for Technological Innovation and Labor Force Development in Romania

On Thursday, March 13, 2019, the University of Bucharest signed a collaboration agreement with Infosys, global leader in consulting and latest digital technologies.

At the launching ceremony took part, together with prof. Univ. dr. Mircea Dumitru, rector of the University of Bucharest, and Ravi Kumar S., president of Infosys, numerous academics, ambassadors and government officials. On this occasion, Infosys announced the opening of a Digital Innovation Center in Bucharest, which aims to develop projects for customers who need the latest digital technologies.

The collaboration agreement between the University of Bucharest and Infosys aims to create partnership strategies involving UB students, giving them the chance to participate in internship programs and research projects aimed to open the way to the technological area and access to the business environment. Thus, the program, subsumed to the Romanian labor force development idea, will include common training and research courses, as well as the possibility of accessing scholarships.

Training programs for Romania will improve the knowledge and practices that the company has developed in decades of experience inside of Infosys Global Education Center, one of the largest corporate universities in the world, located in Mysore, India.

On this occasion, Mircea Dumitru, the rector of the University of Bucharest, stated that “Europe is a laboratory for innovation and the coming generation is willing to develop its skills and knowledge in the digital age through competitive courses and practical experience. We have concluded this partnership with Infosys so that young Romanian specialists can work and prepare with Infosys elite experts at the new center, which will provide them the necessary skills to contribute to Europe’s digital future shaping.”

Ravi Kumar S., President of Infosys, declared: “Our Digital Innovation Center in Bucharest marks an important forward step for Infosys. (…) Through the partnership with key local academic institutions, we will create in Romania organic talents bases, which does not exist on the market today. By creating and developing a highly skilled workforce in Romania, we can contribute to the reduction of the digital skills gap in the region, thus contributing to the Romanian and European economy. ”

Infosys hired up to now 150 specialists in Romania and will invest in training programs for both current employees and new employees. These training programs will focus on a number of key competences, including user experience, Cloud, Big Data, digital offers, basic technology skills and IT skills.

Currently, the company, recently recognized as the top employer in Europe, has operations in 15 European countries, employing over 12,000 people. The company works in a wide range of industries for European and global clients, including financial services, health, life sciences, business process management, utilities, production and retail.
