Friday, March 24, 2023, prof. Lucian Ciolan, PhD, vice-rector for Development Projects, Continuous Learning and Educational Infrastructure of the University of Bucharest and professor of public policies and research in education, was elected secretary general of the European Educational Research Association (EERA), the largest and most prestigious trans-national organization of researchers in education in Europe.
EERA is an entity composed of national research associations and brings together, at representative level, more than 40 countries. EERA, together with the national associations it represents, is a member of WERA – World Educational Research Association. The main purpose of EERA is to support research in education for the benefit of education systems and society in general.
President and founding member of ARCE – Romanian Association for Research in Education, prof. Lucian Ciolan, PhD, is the first member of the EXEC (Executive Board) of EERA to come from the Central-Eastern Europe. His mandate will come into effect from 2024.
The role of the general secretary within EERA is to coordinate, together with the president, the activity of the Berlin office, as well as to be involved in the organization of the annual ECER conferences, to coordinate the work agenda of the EERA Council and of the Executive Office of the association.
Educational sciences represent a field of research in full restructuring and development in Romania, and ARCE has a strategy that supports the conduct of the best quality studies to produce scientific evidence to improve educational policies and practices in the field. Particular attention is focused on attracting and supporting emerging researchers, connected to the wider community of European researchers.
