The University of Bucharest ranks among the most involved universities in sustainable development activities, according to the 2025 edition of QS World University Rankings Sustainability, one of the most renowned rankings in the global academic space.
The University of Bucharest is positioned among the top 500 universities in the world, out of the 1743 institutions that were included in this year’s sixth edition of the ranking.
At the national level, out of the 10 universities included in the ranking, the University of Bucharest (497) is preceded by „Babeș-Bolyai” University in Cluj-Napoca (401) and followed by „Alexandru Ioan Cuza” University in Iași (771) and the West University of Timișoara (991–1,000), all members of the Universitaria Consortium.
The ranking evaluates higher education institutions based on three criteria: societal impact (45%), environmental impact (45%), governance (10%).
The University of Bucharest holds the top position nationally for indicators related to good university governance.
These indicators assess ethical culture (the existence of clear ethical values promoted within the institution), financial transparency (publication of transparent financial reports), student representation in governance (involvement of students in decision-making), publication of decision-making processes (accessibility to governance meeting minutes), and alignment to international standards.
