Friday, March 29th 2024, the Ministry of Education organized, in collaboration with the Classic Philology section of the Faculty of Foreign Languages and Literatures of the University of Bucharest, the selection phase of the Certamen Ciceronianum Arpinas international competition in Latin, addressed to high-school seniors.
During the selection phase, after an eliminatory round, the jury finalized the list of Romanian high-school seniors, from the 11th and 12th grade, who will attend the 43rd edition of the annual competition which will take place in Arpino, Italy, between May 2nd – 12th 2024. The international stage of the competition brings together competitors from around the world to translate and comment texts written by Marcus Tullius Cicero.
The six high-school seniors qualified will also benefit from a preparation stage coordinated by the same Classic Philology section of the University of Bucharest, as well as colleagues from the pre-university education system.
Miruna Clara Mercioniu (Sfântul Sava National College in Bucharest), Mihai Ilinca (Costache Negruzzi National College in Iași), Ana Carina Nițulescu (Elena Cuza National College in Bucharest), Maria Radu (Gheorghe Lazăr National College in Bucharest), Viktoria-Anna Szabo (Carei Theoretical Highschool) and Bianca Elena Dabija (Gheorghe Vrânceanu National College in Bacău.)
The fever of this wonderful competition is passed on from generation to generation and is the fruit of constant collaboration between the professors of the University of Bucharest, the Ministry of Education and the colleagues at pre-university level in supporting classic studies in Romania. We congratulate the contestants and their professors with all our heart!, said lecturer Ioana Munteanu, PhD, teaching staff within the Department of Classic Languages and Literatures, Romanic and Neo-Greek, and coordinating professor of the lot.
