The Senate of the University of Bucharest (UB) has decided, de jure, in the meeting organized Wednesday, February 21st 2024, to revalidate the decision to withdraw the honorific title of Doctor Honoris Causa (DHC) awarded by the University of Bucharest to Nicolae Ceaușescu. This decision validates the first one issued in the period between December 1989 – January 1990 which, although it could not be identified in the archive, has de facto been in effect during this entire time.
The permanent and indefeasible conviction of former communist leader Nicolae Ceușescu from December 25th 1989 is among the explicit cases of honorific title withdrawals awarded by UB, according to the Regulations of the University of Bucharest regarding the awarding of honorific titles. Moreover, Nicolae Ceaușescu has never been mentioned, up to present, on the official list of persons holding the honorific title of Doctor Honoris Causa of the University of Bucharest, including the one published on www.unibuc.ro.
