The University of Bucharest is organising The European Association of Science Editors (EASE) Conference at the University of Bucharest between the 8th and the 11th of June 2018 at the Faculty of Law (36-46 Mihail Kogălniceanu Bvd.), having the title “Between innovation and tradition in scientific editing” as topic. The EASE Conference is held every three years, and the 2018 edition is held for the first time in Romania, in partnership with the University of Bucharest. The schedule of the current edition was created starting directly from the needs of the local editors and of the researchers and will approach specific priorities of the process of publishing a work through a series of workshops such as: COPE publication ethics, Statistics for Editors, Plagiarism for editors or How to be a successful journal editor.
During the conference, participants will enjoy the opportunity of discovering the most recent evolutions in scientific editing from internationally renowned experts, including subjects such as innovations in the publishing of scientific magazines or gender equality in research.
Other sessions will focus on the editing of a scientific magazine, or the debating on subjects such as local language versus the English language, means of improving a scientific magazine and the management of the peer-review process. This way, all of the personnel of the university that contributes in any way to the creation of a scientific magazine, such as a member of an editorial college or a person involved in the peer-review process could benefit from partaking into this conference. The main issues that Romanian magazines face, including redressing the pressure of publishing in the English language while having to maintain a scientific vocabulary, or the Romanian tradition, are essentially bound to the subject of the conference and will be approached in several sessions.
There will also be a series of workshops before and after the conference, regarding statistics, plagiarism and publishing ethics, which will be of interest for all researchers, as well as two other workshops addressed particularly to the persons involved in the management of the magazines that will include the quantifiable parameters.
The signing up period for The European Association of Science Editors (EASE) Conference, “Between innovation and tradition in scientific editing”, will be open in January 2018.
Romanian delegates will be offered the possibility to have a participation fee with a preferential amount.
The European Association of Science Editors (EASE) Conference brings together over 400 editors of the most published scientific works – books and periodicals – from all academic fields. Through its conferences, EASE tried to cover specific priorities for both editors and for researchers that look forward for these editors to publish their works.
