The University of Bucharest, the first university in the Linguistics, Modern Languages, Chemistry, Physics and Astronomy subfields in the ranking made by Quacuarelly Symonds (QS)
Permanently positioned in the first third of the ranking made by Quacuarelly Symonds (QS), the University of Bucharest confirms, year after year, the continuous progress in key areas, considering the upward trend in recent years of the number of institutions included in the ranking. In the 2023 edition, the ranking highlights the performances of 1,597 universities.
Thus, according to the QS World University Rankings by Subject, based on fundamental fields, based on the results of their related subfields, the University of Bucharest appears in three of the five analyzed fields: Arts and Humanities, Natural Sciences and Social Sciences and Management.
Arts and Humanities ranks the University of Bucharest first nationally and 375th worldwide.
Within this fundamental field, the ranking made by Quacuarelly Symonds (QS) places the University of Bucharest in first place at national level in the subfields of Linguistics (in the range of 201-250 worldwide) and Modern Languages (in the range of 201-250 worldwide). At the national level, UB is the only university included in the Linguistics subfield.
Also, the University of Bucharest ranks first nationally (in the range of 451-500 worldwide) in the fundamental field of Natural Sciences, along with “Babeș-Bolyai” University in Cluj-Napoca.
The result obtained is due both to the Chemistry and Physics and Astronomy subfields, which place the University of Bucharest in first place at the national level, and to the Mathematics subfield, which places it in the third position at the national level. Regarding the Physics and Astronomy subfield, the University of Bucharest occupies, in the list made by Quacuarelly Symonds (QS), the first position at national level together with the “Babeș-Bolyai” University in Cluj-Napoca. At world level, Physics and Astronomy places the University of Bucharest in the range of 551-600.It is also worth mentioning the re-entry of the University of Bucharest in the ranking related to the field of Social Sciences and Management: after a one-year break, the QS World University Rankings by Subject ranks the University of Bucharest in the range of 451-500 worldwide and in 2nd place at the national level, proof of the increasingly numerous and diversified publications in this field.Last but not least, the University of Bucharest is included in the world hierarchy also in the Informatics and information systems subfield within the field of Engineering and Technology, where it ranks 3rd nationally, a remarkable performance considering that this field is represented by only one program of UB. Thanks to this result, in 2023 the University of Bucharest appears in the ranking made by Quacuarelly Symonds (QS) in four of the five analyzed fields.The top QS World University Rankings by Subject analyzes the performance of universities based on indicators such as academic reputation, the number of citations for published works, reputation among employers, the impact and quality of works published by researchers and teaching staff (h-index), but also the efficiency of inter-institutional collaborations (IRN).
