Between July 23-25, 2022, three villages in Hunedoara County on the territory of the UNESCO International Geopark Ţara Hațegului will host award-winning theater performances this year at the UNITER Gala. The series of performances is part of the “Rural/Theatrical” project, co-financed by the National Cultural Fund Administration (AFCN) and the Culture and Art Center of Sălaj County. UNESCO International Geopark Țara Hațegului, managed by the University of Bucharest, is among the partners of the event.
Thus, in the year in which it celebrates a decade since it has been traveling the country far and wide to bring quality theater to rural households and cultural homes, Cultură’n Șura will hold three performances in Hunedoara County.
As a result, the show “Marriage Proposal” by A. P. Cehov, directed by Victor Olăhuț, will be performed in three localities in Hunedoara County, and the event comes shortly after the team was awarded at the UNITER Awards Gala with the “Open Theater” awarded by the British Council Romania.
The first of the three performances of the play will take place on Saturday, July 23, from 9 p.m., in the village of Sălașu de Sus. The hosts will be Liana and Cristi a’ lu Cândoni, at house number 141. Sunday, July 24, also from 9 p.m., “Marriage Proposal” will be hosted by Gabriela and Rareș a’ Băieștenilor, at Transylvania Log Cabins in Peșteana village, Densuș commune. On Monday, July 25, from 8:00 p.m., the actors of the Cultură’n Șura will play at the House of Culture in Baru, on a stage not inferior to the ones that are used to in theaters in Bucharest or in big cities.
Theater workshops dedicated to children and young people in the village
Each show will be headed by a theater workshop dedicated to children and young people from the village by professional actors. During the workshops, participants will discover activities specific to the actor’s art, such as diction, improvisation and stage movement. They will also learn why it is important to respect the other participants in the show and what are the rules of conduct that must be followed in the case of an artistic event.This is the second year that Cultură’n Șura plays in a village in the Geopark. The first show was held last year, in Budău’s household from Râu de Mori.“Marriage Proposal” is a show for young and old alike and talks about an ever-present theme, love and the worldly obstacles that stand in its way. In fact, it is one of the most successful shows, bearing the stamp of Cultură’n Șura. The show was made in partnership with the Bucharest Art Theater and was presented in national and international theater festivals, where it received numerous awards, including for best actor and best show. In 2020, the show was filmed by TVR for the National Television Archive.The cast of the show is also a valuable one, bringing together important actors of the Romanian scene. Florentina Năstase was nominated for best actress at the UNITER and GOPO Awards. George Constantinescu can be seen in the performances of the Nottara Theater and the Comedy Theater and has played in numerous film and television productions. Valentin Terente is an actor at the “Maria Filotti” Theater in Brăila and was present, in 2020, in the “10 for TIFF” program. The director Victor Olăhuț has a prestigious career, with shows on the stages of the national theaters in Cluj-Napoca and Sibiu.Before arriving in Hunedoara County, the show was played this summer in Domnin, Bănișor and Horoatu-Crasnei in Sălaj County, in Slimnic and Arpașu de Jos in Sibiu and in Cornățel in Argeș County. Other performances will take place in Tinca, Cociuba Mare and Husăsău de Tinca in Bihor County.More details on the performances are available on the Facebook page of the Cultură’n Șura Association.
