According to the latest World University Rankings 2023 by Subject, made by Times Higher Education (THE) and published on Wednesday, October 26, 2022, the University of Bucharest is included in 7 of the 11 analyzed fields.
Thus, the University of Bucharest is included in the fields: Arts and Humanities, Business and Economics, Education, Social Sciences, Computer Science, Engineering, Life Sciences, Physical Sciences and Psychology. We make it clear that the few fields in which the University of Bucharest does not appear in the ranking are either those in which the institution does not have study programs (for example, Medical Sciences), or those in which there are publications by teaching staff, not included in the ranking because the number did not reach the minimum threshold to be classified.
The University of Bucharest thus confirms its constant evolution in the ranking, with future growth forecasts. The data to which the ranking refers are those from the year 2019-2020, when the University of Bucharest initiated the implementation of research stimulation programs.
The ranking is made from general data reported by universities (human resources, students, graduates, financial resources) and from information obtained from open sources (research, citations, international collaborations). The number of universities included in the ranking is also increasing from one edition to another.
The University of Bucharest, constantly included in the international rankings
In 2021, one of the best-known rankings in the global academic milieu – Times Higher Education Impact Rankings, placed the University of Bucharest in the first position at the national level in terms of social and economic impact. Thus, according to the Times Higher Education Impact Rankings 2021, the University of Bucharest is placed in the 301-400 range, out of 1,115 participating institutions, proving, once again, its commitment to the Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations. In fact, one of the fundamental principles promoted by the University of Bucharest aims at civic involvement, through which UB reconfirms its role in society and reaffirms its aspiration to propose knowledge-based solutions to current societal problems. Specifically, the University of Bucharest reported data on 8 of the 17 analyzed categories, standing out in areas such as “Quality Education”, “Gender Equality”, “Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions”, “Reduced Inequalities” and “Decent Work and Economic Growth”.
Thus, the University of Bucharest ranks 44th out of 966 institutions in the “Quality Education” category and 38th out of 776 institutions in the “Gender Equality” category, while in the “Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions” category it ranks in the 101-200 range, and in the “Reduced Inequalities” and “Decent Work and Economic Growth” domains, UB falls within the 201-300 range.Another well-known international ranking, Round University Ranking – World University Rankings, in 2020, for the tenth consecutive year since its launch, placed the University of Bucharest in the first position at national level. The result obtained by the University of Bucharest in the 2020 edition of the RUR World University Rankings is mainly due to the teaching component, which placed UB in 481st place. Also included in the ranking in the 2022 edition, the University of Bucharest is once again ranked first position at national level, being followed by “Babeș-Bolyai” University of Cluj-Napoca and “Iuliu Hațieganu” University of Medicine and Pharmacy of Cluj-Napoca.
UB, among the top 200 universities in the world in terms of graduate performance, according to the QS ranking
For the third consecutive year, the world ranking of universities according to the employability of graduates – QS Graduate Employability Rankings 2022 – places the University of Bucharest in the top 500, thus reconfirming both the good insertion of UB graduates on the labor market and the close collaboration of the institution with the business sector. The result achieved by the University of Bucharest to be in the top 500 worldwide in the QS Graduate Employability Rankings 2022 is mainly due to the performance achieved by UB graduates, who, according to the ranking, are “among the most innovative, creative and with a highly entrepreneurial spirit […], motivated by the desire to change the world”. Thus, for the “Alumni Outcomes” indicator, the University of Bucharest ranks 191st worldwide in the QS ranking.
In fact, the University of Bucharest is the only Romanian university included in the Quacuarelly Symonds Ranking, the best-known global ranking of universities according to the results and employability of graduates.
