Between April 24th – 25th 2024, Moldova State University (MSU) organized, in collaboration with the University of Bucharest (UB) and with the support of the “Mihai Eminescu” Romanian Cultural Institute (ICR), the scientific conference Romania – the Republic of Moldova: Cultural Patrimony and Joint European Destiny.
The event was hosted by the Moldova State University and was organized under the high patronage of the President of Romania, Klaus Werner Iohannis, and the President of the Republic of Moldova, Maia Sandu.
The conference reunited historians, researchers, professors and experts on both sides of the river Prut, and aimed to become an active platform to discuss and analyze aspects regarding history, arts, traditions and other relevant domains to the joint cultural patrimony and for the European evolution of Romania and the Republic of Moldova.
The University of Bucharest was represented at the event by professor Marian Preda, PhD, the Rector of the University of Bucharest, professor Bogdan Murgescu, PhD, UB vice-rector for Budgeting and Human Resources, and associate professor Constantin Vică, PhD, UB vice-rector for Internationalisation and Public Relations. At the same time, several members of the teaching staff of the University of Bucharest held presentations during the conference: professor Ioan Stanomir, PhD, and associate professor Florentina Nițu, PhD, both from the Faculty of History, associate professor Ileana Ratcu, PhD, from the Faculty of Foreign Languages and Literatures, lecturer Laurențiu Gheorghe, PhD, teaching staff at the UB Faculty of Philosophy, as well as Maria Balaș, PhD student of the University of Bucharest.
The opening ceremony, which was held in the “Queen Mary” Hall of the Moldova State University, commenced with a speech given by professor Igor Sarov, PhD, rector of the MSU, followed by professor Marian Preda, PhD, UB Rector, professor Sergiu Nistor, PhD, Presidential Advisor within the Department of Culture, Cults and National Minorities of the Presidential Administration in Romania, Mihai Popșoi, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Moldova, Liviu Jicman, the president of The Romanian Cultural Institute, His Excellence Cristian-Leon Țurcanu, the ambassador of Romania in the Republic of Moldova, and professor Daniel Șandru, PhD, the president of the Institute for the Investigation of Communist Crimes and the Memory of the Romanian Exile (IICCMER).
