The University of Bucharest awarded, during a ceremony which took place Tuesday, June 3rd 2024, the title of Doctor Honoris Causa to professor Leslie Greenberg, one of the most important personalities in the field of psychology, founder of the Emotion Focused Therapy (EFT). The ceremony took place at 2 PM in the Senate Hall of the University of Bucharest (90 Panduri Street, Bucharest).
Professor Greenberg brought significant contributions to the development of the Society for Psychotherapy Research (SPR), one of the most important international organizations in the field of psychotherapy and research in psychotherapy. The academic activity and clinical and therapeutic practice of professor Greenberg are characterized by a continual search to explore and understand the nature of human emotions and the manners in which psychotherapeutic intervention can contribute to comforting the sufferance inherent to life.
His work in developing and perfecting EFT produced a referential effect in the international psychotherapeutic community. Professor Greenberg is one of the founders of the International Society of Emotion Focused Therapy (ISEFT), whose mission is to understand and apply EFT in practical and research contexts, serving as a platform through which psychotherapy practitioners, clinical psychologists, professors and students can share ideas and practices, can develop new aptitudes and can contribute to deepening the understanding of this approach in the entire world. Professor Greenberg is a mentor and dedicated supporter of EFT practice and training in Romania, being involved in the educational process of several generations of psychotherapists, facilitating the access of our practitioners to resources and expertise in this field and, thus, contributing to increasing the quality of the therapeutic services offered in our country.
Throughout his career, professor Greenberg was awarded many prizes and official distinctions which reflect not only his excellent scientific activity, but also its impact on the field of psychotherapy throughout the world, among which we mention the prestigious American Psychological Association Award for Distinguished Professional Contribution to Applied Research 2012, Senior Distinguished Research Career Award of the Society for Psychotherapy Research 2004 and Outstanding Early Career Achievement Award of the International Society of Psychotherapy Research 1984.
Granting the title of Doctor Honoris Causa of the University of Bucharest to professor Leslie Greenberg is a sign of recognition of his prestigious scientific activity, both in Romania and internationally.
