The Confucius Institute within the University of Bucharest was inaugurated on the 22nd of November 2013 after the Agreement for cooperation was signed by the University of Bucharest and Hanban – the General Headquarters of the Confucius Institutes.
The institute functions as a non-profit organisation, created in partnership with the University of Political and Judicial Studies in Beijing.
Aside from the Chinese language classes, the Confucius Institute within the University of Bucharest aims to promote bilateral cultural relationship. For this, there are cultural expositions, debates on various subjects regarding the friendly relationship of collaboration between the two countries, book launches, scientific conferences and workshops. The Institute offers an appropriate environment for the creation of such events, inviting as participants both renowned sinologists as well as famous figures, specialists in various fields.
Also, there are activities and cultural exchanges with the other Confucius Institutes throughout the country, as well as with those from abroad.
The professors who teach at the Confucius Institute in Bucharest are native speakers, specialized in the field of teaching the Chinese language to foreigners, as well as Romanian professors who have a vast experience in teaching. All professors use the most modern methods of teaching, with adequate didactic materials and modern devices, necessary for an efficient didactic process. Professors periodically enjoy training internships which contribute to the advancement of the didactic strategies and their adaptation to the learning requirements of the students.
Courses
The courses offered by the Confucius Institute of Bucharest are meant for children as well as adults and they are organized on different studying levels which comprise several modules. The Institute also offers specialized courses, intensive courses as well as courses for state and private companies.
For the students of the Chinese department of the University of Bucharest, special courses are held for listening skills, conversational skills as well as a Chinese Corner.
Fee: ADULTS – 300 RON/module, CHILDREN – 40 RON/module
Structure: each module comprises a total of 8 weeks with 2 added weeks of free courses. Therefore, each module has a total of 10 weeks of two weekly meetings (a total of 20 meetings).
Free courses: the students and the employees of the University of Bucharest may have free courses.
In case family groups of 2 or 3 members attend the Chinese language courses, one of them shall pay the whole tax, while the others will only have to pay 100 RON each.
The payment of the tax can be done in a maximum of two instalments.

Exams
The Confucius Institute holds exams meant to test Chinese language levels (levels 1 to 6), which are recognized by Hanban – the General Headquarters of the Confucius Institutes in China, which issues the internationally-acknowledged certificates. In order to obtain the best results, the Confucius Institute offers preparatory courses for these exams, guided by professors specialized in China for this type of test.

Library
The Confucius Institute has a library containing a vast amount of didactic material published in both China and in Romania, dictionaries of all sorts, books and publications about the Chinese culture and civilization. There are also works of Romanian sinologists as well as translations in international languages of the works of great Chinese writers.
The materials can be consulted in the library from Monday until Friday, between 10:00 and 18:00.
