The Faculty of Interdisciplinary Studies (FSI) is the first of its kind in Romania, established within the University of Bucharest, one of the country’s oldest and most prestigious higher education institutions. FSI is an academic initiative designed to meet the growing need to understand the world through approaches that transcend the boundaries of any single discipline. From climate change and systemic crises to public health challenges and the rapid pace of technological advancement, we are increasingly confronted with complex and fast-evolving global issues. Yet within each challenge lies the potential to create something better. At FSI, you’ll learn how to recognize and harness these opportunities.

Why choose the Faculty of Interdisciplinary Studies?
- An international perspective. Our program draws inspiration from best practices tested at universities focused on interdisciplinary approaches and digital transformation. Academic activities are closely connected to international academic networks and relevant economic stakeholders.
- Interdisciplinary learning + digitalization. Our courses combine data analysis, spatial modeling, and critical thinking, enabling you to tackle community challenges from multiple angles and support well-informed decision-making.
- Science that changes the game. The future of sustainable solutions doesn’t belong to just one discipline. That’s why you’ll collaborate with peers from social sciences, environmental studies, public health, and cutting-edge technologies.
- Technology transfer with real impact. Everything we research, teach, and learn is aimed at one clear goal: practical solutions for society. Through projects grounded in community needs, you’ll see how your ideas can shape public policy and support decision-making processes.

If you want to become a professional who can bridge science, technology, and knowledge transfer in society, FSI is where your journey begins. The Faculty of Interdisciplinary Studies offers a unique opportunity: the University of Bucharest is the first university in Romania to create a faculty entirely dedicated to interdisciplinary studies. At FSI, you’ll find a flexible academic environment where you can shape your own educational path. The program structure allows you to explore topics across multiple fields, combine them creatively, and specialize based on your interests and passions. Courses are taught by faculty members from various departments within the University of Bucharest, encouraging collaboration and the exchange of expertise across disciplines.
At FSI, you’ll work alongside professors from various faculties within the University of Bucharest, giving you access to knowledge and methods rooted in diverse academic traditions. You’ll be part of a community where curiosity is encouraged, and asking the right questions is just as important as finding the answers.
You’ll learn to analyze complex problems from multiple perspectives, collaborate with people from different fields, and build solutions that are relevant, well-reasoned, and socially responsible. All of this will prepare you not just for today’s job market, but for a flexible and adaptable career in the future.
