Alexandra Bacalu is an assistant lecturer at the English Department of the University of Bucharest where she mainly teaches eighteenth-century literature and practical courses in English. Her research interests include the intellectual and cultural histories of the early modern period and Enlightenment, with focus on the English space. She has recently defended her PhD thesis, Eighteenth-Century Stoic Poetics: Shaftesbury, Akenside, and the Discipline of the Imagination, which argues that Stoic exercises for disciplining the imagination played a significant role in the emergence of eighteenth-century poetic notions of imaginative freedom and creativity.
