ANCA SEVCENCO is Associate Professor in the English Department, the Faculty of Foreign Languages and Literatures, University of Bucharest. She teaches classes on the syntax of root clauses, on introduction to experimental methods in linguistics and second language acquisition from the Universal Grammar perspective. She also collaborates with the Faculty of Psychology and Education Sciences, University of Bucharest, where she teaches a class on the development of language and cognition in the Cognitive Science program.
After receiving her Ph.D in Philology from The Utrecht Institute of Linguistics, OTS, Utrecht University, she has embarked on conducting research in the field of language acquisition in a monolingual and bilingual context (Romanian as first language, bilingualism involving Romanian and Hungarian) and, more recently, on second language acquisition. She is one of the co-organizers of the Bucharest Colloquim of Language Acquisition (BUCLA), a conference organized by the English Department that promotes research on first and second language acquisition and bilingualism. BUCLA has already seen seven editions so far.
She was awarded a Fulbright Junior grant with University of California, at Davis, and a Fulbright Senior grant with the University of Massachussetts, Amherst. She has activated as a member in various language acquisition projects at the English Department or in collboration with international institutions and has been a principle investigator in a project on vulnerabilites in early simultaneous bilingual acquisition (Romanian and Hungarian, Romanian and Lipovan Russian).
