Mugur Zlotea is currently Associate Professor at the Department of Oriental Languages, Faculty of Foreign Languages and Literatures, teaching Chinese Lexicology and Pragmatics, Translation techniques, Chinese culture and Contemporary Chinese Society.
He got his B.A. and M.A. at the Beijing Language and Culture University, followed by a Ph.D. at the University of Bucharest. He won a post-doctoral research grant with the New Europe College in Romania and a Fulbright research grant with the University of Texas at Austin. Between 2011 and 2013, he was visiting professor at the Indian Institute of Technology – Madras (IITM).
His areas of interest are contemporary Chinese society, elite political discourse of the Chinese Communist Party, the role of tradition within modern Chinese society and translation studies. He published articles and books on these topics, and also translated Chinese literature and history books from Chinese and English.
He is a member of the European Association of Chinese Studies (EACS), board-member between 2016-202 and secretary-general from 2018 to 2020, member of the European Association of Chinese Philosophy (EACP) and board-member of the Confucius Institute at the University of Bucharest.
