The University of Bucharest invites interested students to apply for the FARO Lab project, coordinated by CIVIS partner Sapienza University of Rome. Participants will take part in an extensive research initiative on European linguistic biographies, which will conclude with a mobility period in Rome, where students will join the FARO Lab Festival, scheduled for 18–22 May 2026.
Introductory workshops will be held on 17–18 December 2025 by the project coordinator, Prof. Nadia Cannata. Registration is open from 5–13 December 2025 via the form available here.
Selected students will conduct fieldwork both at the University of Bucharest and in their local communities by distributing and analyzing questionnaires on linguistic biographies. The information collected – anonymous and rigorously processed – will be presented at local events and will contribute to documenting Europe’s linguistic diversity as part of EUROTALES, a European university museum based in Rome with shared collections from all participating institutions. Data collected so far can be consulted on the project website.
As part of the project, students are also encouraged to explore the linguistic backgrounds of writers, politicians, artists, and other notable figures from their communities, as well as to document forms of local linguistic memory – such as place names, oral traditions, inscriptions, or graffiti – which contribute to creating a “diffuse museum” of Europe’s languages.
