The ArchaeoSciences Platform of the Research Institute of the University of Bucharest (ASp-ICUB) announces the hybrid course “Archaeobotanical Contributions to Understanding the (Non)Human Past”, taught by Dr Dragana Filipović, Visiting Professor at the University of Bucharest (Romania) and Integrated Researcher at the University of Algarve (Portugal).
This course is part of ASp-ICUB’s broader effort to support the consolidation and development of archaeobotany in Romania, a field of major relevance for archaeology and environmental history, yet currently at risk of disappearing.
Running from March to May 2026, the course combines online lectures, on-site practical sessions, a museum-based class, and an experimental planting component. It offers students an introduction to archaeobotanical evidence, including preservation, sampling, recovery, identification, quantification, interpretation, and current methodological directions in the field.
In-person activities will take place in the ICUB Seminar Room (former Herbarium), Faculty of Biology, Botanical Garden Building, Intrarea Portocalelor No. 3, basement level, Sector 6, Bucharest.
Registration is open until 19 March 2026 at the following form.
The course is open to a maximum of 10 students, ensuring close interaction, direct mentoring, and hands-on experience throughout the programme.
A syllabus of the course is available here.
