Biomimetic peptide scaffolds affording tunable biosensor interfaces
AbstractBiosensors capable of sensing and responding to small molecules have wide-ranging applications, but despite such broad utility, no single strategy for the construction of biosensors has proven sufficiently generalizable to gain widespread use. The project aim is to design novel biomimetic peptide scaffolds generating biosensor interfaces, which can be tuned as common biorecognition interface for different transducers. The modular peptide-based sensors proposed will exploit the conductive and self-assembling properties of short helical peptides along with their ability to easily form amide, thioether and ester bonds in the presence of cross-linking reagents. This approach makes it possible to produce a wide variety of biosensors for different small molecules detection with application in clinical laboratory, environmental and food quality monitoring.
