Science Meets High School Students at the University of Bucharest at the 2026 European Researchers’ Night

On Friday, 25 September 2026, the University of Bucharest is organizing the first edition of the European Researchers’ Night, an event dedicated to promoting science and research among young people and the general public. The event will take place between 4:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m., on the University of Bucharest campus (90–92 Șoseaua Panduri).

With free admission for the public, the programme offers interactive experiences for everyone interested in science and research: experiments, demonstrations explained in an accessible way, and direct conversations with specialists.

Organised this year by the University of Bucharest, the 2026 edition brings together UB faculties and research centres, alongside partner institutes and organisations. The event aims to bring science closer to the public and create a space where curiosity and questions become starting points for discovering new fields of knowledge.

Throughout the event, participants will be able to take part in activities prepared together with researchers, teaching staff, and students. They will have the opportunity to experience experiments and demonstrations, as well as hands-on activities and question-and-answer sessions.

Among the activities prepared for participants are drone piloting workshops, general physics experiments, demonstrations using a Van de Graaff generator, microscope analyses, electricity and thermodynamics experiments, as well as astronomical observations using a telescope, alongside many other activities.

The activities are aimed especially at students and teachers, but also at members of the general public interested in learning more about the research carried out at the University of Bucharest and its partner institutions.

This year’s edition will feature the Faculty of Chemistry, the Faculty of Physics and the Association of Physics Students, the Faculty of Biology, the Faculty of Geography, the Faculty of Geology, the Faculty of Interdisciplinary Studies, the Applied Ethics Research Centre of the Faculty of Philosophy, and the Centre for Research in Systemic Ecology and Sustainability at the University of Bucharest.

The programme is complemented by activities organised by partner institutions and organisations: SciResCareer, the National Institute for Research and Development for Materials Physics, the National Institute for Research and Development for Physics and Nuclear Engineering “Horia Hulubei”, the UNESCO Chair – TRISSE, the “Costin D. Nenițescu” Institute of Organic Chemistry of the Romanian Academy, the Institute of Biochemistry of the Romanian Academy, the Technical University of Civil Engineering Bucharest, and the European Climate Pact.

Through the diversity of its activities, the event will bring together different fields of research and give the public the opportunity to discover perspectives on topics that influence our everyday lives and the future of society.

The European Researchers’ Night creates a setting in which the public can come into direct contact with the people behind research. For students, meeting researchers is an opportunity to discover fields of study and learn how questions about the world around us are transformed into research projects and findings.

As an initiative dedicated to bringing researchers and the general public closer together, the event aims to make science more accessible through experiments, demonstrations, exhibitions, interactive activities, and direct meetings with researchers.

The event is part of a series of European initiatives dedicated to promoting science and research and takes place annually.
