Between March 16th – 17th, the University of Bucharest will organize the conference “Philosophy of memes”, a project made possible with the support of the students in the Cognition area of science within the UB Faculty of Psychology and Education Sciences and the PhD students of the UB Faculty of Philosophy. The event will have a hybrid format, both online and at the headquarters of the Faculty of Philosophy (no. 204 Splaiul Independenței).
With this occasion, the organizers are launching a call for papers for students on all levels of study and also for postdoctoral researchers, interested in philosophy of the mind, cognition sciences, pragmatics and semiotics, understanding of the meme culture and the cognitive mechanisms which lay at the foundation of creating and interpreting memes.
Those persons interested are invited to contribute with research abstracts relevant for the theme of the conference. These include history of memes, cognitive mechanisms and processes, linguistic and pragmatic aspects, semiotic approaches, social and political aspects of memes. Summaries will be sent in English, either in Word of PDF format, and will have a maximum of 300 words.
The papers will be submitted online before February 18th 2024 at the e-mail address philosophyofmemesconference@gmail.com, with the title “abstract submission”.
The program of the conference will be announced as soon as the evaluation of the abstracts will be finalized, by February 20th 2024. Presentations will last 20 minutes, each followed by a 10-minute Q&A session and a break of 10 minutes.
