Project title: Innovative Collagen-Based, Nano-Enhanced, Plant-Active Formulation for Malignant Wound Care and Microbiome Management
Acronym: BionanoHeal
Abstract:
The NanoBioHeal project aims to revolutionize the care of malignant wounds through the development of advanced bioactive dressings, by addressing some of the key challenges associated with this severe pathology, i.e. reducing inflammation and infection control, while also promoting tissue regeneration and healing. For this purpose, we will obtain gold and silver nanoparticles using a green chemistry approach optimized in a previous project, which will be integrated into collagen-based dressings along with specific plant-derived compounds with demonstrated pro-wound healing properties. A critical innovation of our project lies in its approach to managing the skin microbiome, which plays a vital role in wound healing processes. By leveraging the antimicrobial properties of silver and gold nanoparticles obtained by ecofriendly synthesis, along with the natural therapeutic benefits of selected plant compounds, the proposed advanced dressings are designed to create an optimal environment for wound healing while preventing infection. Moreover, the project is committed to advancing the understanding of wound care in oncological patients, offering a new paradigm in treatment that could significantly improve the quality of life for individuals suffering from malignant wounds. The integration of nanotechnology with biologically active compounds represents a forward-thinking strategy that could pave the way for future innovations in wound care and regenerative medicine.
