On Thursday, January 20, 2022, the Ambassador of Israel to Romania, HE Mr. David Saranga, paid an official visit to the University of Bucharest.
The visit aimed at consolidating and expanding the partnerships and collaborations that the University of Bucharest has developed over the years with the Israeli academic milieu.
The dialogue between Professor Marian Preda, PhD, Rector of the University of Bucharest, and HE Mr. David Saranga, Israel’s Ambassador to Romania, aimed, among other things, to initiate several educational support programs between the University of Bucharest and several higher education institutions in Israel.
In this regard, HE Mr. David Saranga expressed his willingness to support the strengthening of cooperation between the University of Bucharest and academic institutions in Israel, recalling the educational funding programs that Romanian students, especially those in the fields of life sciences and environment, can access.
At the same time, the discussions carried out by the representatives of the two institutions aimed at establishing the most effective ways of intercultural development.
The meeting was attended by the Rector of the University of Bucharest, Professor Marian Preda, PhD, Amir Sagron, Deputy Ambassador of Israel to Romania (Deputy Chief of Mission) and Madalina Melinte, Public Diplomacy Officer at the Embassy of Israel in Romania, as well as UB representatives: Associate Professor Sorin Costreie, PhD, Vice-Rector for University Networks and Public Relations, and Associate Professor Mugur-Dan Zlotea, PhD, Vice-Rector for Students and Internationalization.
Last but not least, the meeting also approached the intention of the University of Bucharest to become a key partner of the Israeli academic and research community, as well as the possibilities of cooperation with Israeli universities and research centers.
In fact, for several years, the University of Bucharest has been launching the project “International Weeks at the University of Bucharest” (SIUB), in which the event “Israeli Culture Week” takes place. At each edition of the meeting coordinated by professors from the Department of Hungarian, Jewish and Roman Studies at the Faculty of Foreign Languages and Literatures, participants – UB students – attended a series of Hebrew workshops, film screenings, conferences and Israeli music.
