On Wednesday, July 9, 2025, the Faculty of Geology and Geophysics of the University of Bucharest invites you to the opening event of the SEG FIELD CAMP 2025 project.
Organized together with the Romanian Society of Applied Geophysics (SGAR), the workshop “PSInSAR – a radar interferometry technique for measuring Ground Dynamics and Infrastructure Health from Space” will be delivered by Valentin Poncos, from Terrasigna.
The workshop will take place starting with 5:30 p.m. at the Faculty of Geology and Geophysics of the University of Bucharest (Nicolae Bălcescu Blvd., sector 2, Bucharest).
The event is dedicated to the professional training of students in the field of geosciences and offers a practical introduction to the use of the technique Persistent Scatterer Interferometric Synthetic Aperture Radar (PSInSAR), with an emphasis on the principles of satellite radar, data acquisition and processing methodologies, and applicability in monitoring ground deformation with millimeter precision.
The participants will benefit from a hands-on case study using real satellite data from the Rătești area (Buzău County), where participants will explore ground movement patterns and assess potential impacts on infrastructure stability. The applied segment offers valuable insights into interpreting outputs in real-world geohazards contexts.
The interested students are kindly asked to fill in the following registration form, available here.
The workshop is part of the project „Geophysical Field Studies in High-Risk Areas: Unlocking the Past – Securing the Future”, developed between May 1 and December 22, 2025, in partnership between the Faculty of Geology and Geophysics of the University of Bucharest, Bucharest Student Chapter of SEG and Romanian Society of Applied Geophysics, under the leadership of Florina Țuluca. The project has received financial support from the Society of Exploration Geophysicists (SEG) and SEG Foundation – SUA. Project partners: Institute of Geodynamics of the Romanian Academy, GeoEcoMar GeoLogData SRL, DIRAC and Terrasigna.
