On Friday, March 21, 2025, the University of Bucharest, in partnership with PiArt Vision and Astra Film Festival, is hosting the event „Libertatea noastră” („Our Freedom”). The event will open with a screening of the documentary „Între tăcere și păcat” („Between Silence and Sin”) (2024), by Diana Nicolae, a biographical film about the life and career of poet Ana Blandiana, followed by a discussion on education, freedom, and truth.
Shaped as an open dialogue among key figures in Romanian culture, such as poet Ana Blandiana, actor Victor Rebengiuc, actress Ana Ularu, and professor Marian Preda, PhD, Rector of the University of Bucharest, the discussion will be moderated by poet and novelist Radu Vancu.
The event will take place in the „Ioan Mihăilescu” Amphitheater at the Faculty of Sociology and Social Work, starting at 2:15 PM.
Admission is free, subject to seat availability. Reservations can be made by filling out the form available here.
During one of the world’s most brutal dictatorships, poetry became the last refuge of freedom, and poets who dared to speak the truth were deemed enemies of the communist regime. Ana Blandiana, one of the most important poets in Europe, remains a symbol of the fight for democracy and freedom of expression.
Released last year, the biographical documentary „Between Silence and Sin” portrays the struggles and extraordinary career of Ana Blandiana, exploring the power of words as the last stronghold of a nation’s collective soul in the face of oppression.
