Thursday, July 18th 2024, representatives of the University of Bucharest signed, at the Ministry of Education, the contract that will allow the rehabilitation and increase of energetic performances of students dorms G3-G4 from the Măgurele student Campus.
The investment of approximately 6,5 million euro ((32.447.254 lei) will allow the University of Bucharest to ensure the students an adequate university infrastructure and will lead to the creation of 154 new accommodation spaces. We are discussing about modern accommodation spaces, accessible even to students with disabilities and featuring lecture halls and recreation spaces which respect the highest standards of safety and quality.
According to the financing contract registered at the Ministry of Education, out of the total investment of 32.447.254 lei, 13.473.450 lei represent expenses eligible to be made through Romania’s National Resilience and Recovery Plan.
The initiative will lead to the reduction of the annual level of greenhouse gases and to the reduction of the annual consumption of energy. Thus, through the rehabilitation and energetic performance increase for student dorms G3-G4 of the Măgurele Campus, it is estimated that:
- Energy consumption for heating will be reduced by at least 50% in comparison to the annual consumption of energy for heating before the renovation of the building, which will lead to an increase of 30% of savings for primary energy in comparison to the state prior to the renovation
- Reducing the quantity of CO2 emissions
40% of all modernized accommodation places, destined for students coming from underprivileged environments
The modern spaces will host, with priority, students of the University of Bucharest coming from underprivileged environments, with disabilities, ethnic minorities or single-parent families. The necessity and opportunity of the rehabilitation of the two dorms of the Măgurele student campus derives, mainly, from the need to increase the quality of the comfort and life as a UB student.
The rehabilitation of the two dorms from the Măgurele student Campus is part of the development strategy of the University of Bucharest, especially regarding the objective to modernize the existing material base and extending it by rehabilitating and increasing the number of accommodation places for students.
The main effect previsioned is represented by the main objective of the investment, more specifically developing the resilience of university campuses, by ensuring an adequate university infrastructure, with modern accommodation spaces, lecture and recreation spaces, rooms destined for students with disabilities, with the respecting of safety and quality standards, as well as the reducing of the annual level of greenhouse gases and reducing the total amount of energy consumed for heating by 50%, and a primary energy consumption reduction of at least 20%.
