Monday, January 22nd 2024, the University of Bucharest signed a collaboration memorandum with Ho Chi Minh Open University (HCMCOU) in Vietnam, during a ceremony hosted at Victoria Palace. The memorandum aims to consolidate the collaboration between Romania and Vietnam by highlighting the essential role of education in promoting cultural diversity and sustainable development.
The event took place in the context of the official visit of prime minister of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, his Excellence Mr. Pham Minh Chinh, to Bucharest. Professor Marian Preda, Rector of the University of Bucharest, and Alina Cristovici, Director for International Relations and Erasmus coordinator, represented UB at the event.
The cooperation memorandum marks an important moment in diplomatic and academic relations between Vietnam and Romania. This collaboration is designed to contribute to promoting multiculturalism and achieving the objectives set for sustainable development. Among the benefits, we can mention: common activities and programs, transfer and recognition of credits, experience exchange, as well as cooperation in the field of research. At the same time, this memorandum represents a frame for future collaborations, offering both parties the flexibility to develop specific projects and activities based on mutual discussions and negotiations.
Between October 21st and 25th 2023, in the continual effort to attract international students and promote study in Romania, the University of Bucharest participated to the Talk Global Study Fair, which took place in Ho Chi Minh, Vietnam. Associate professor Mugur Zlotea, PhD, and Alina Cristovici, Director of International Relations and Erasmus institutional coordinator attended the fair on behalf of the University of Bucharest. This is the second participation of Romania to the Talk Global Study Fair, 2022 being the first year UB attended the event under the slogan “Study in Romania”. These events have opened the way to interact with Vietnamese students and to present them the advantages of studying in Romania. Currently, 5 Vietnamese students are studying at the University of Bucharest. UB aims to increase this number in the future and to welcome students from Vietnam in its academic community, by promoting cultural exchange and offering a space for academic excellent at international level.
Ho Chi Minh Open University (HCMCOU) was established in 1990 to address the urgent need of transforming education in Vietnam. HCMCOU was officially granted the title of public university in 2006, offering multidisciplinary programs covering a large area of academic fields.
