Between April, 2-4, 2025, took place the Bioinformatics Horizons 2025 International Conference, in which the University of Bucharest, through the Faculty of Biology, had the honor to be a partner along other prestigious institutions and organizations. The event, organized by UEFISCDI and EEA and Norway Grants, aimed to showcase Romania’s growing contributions to bioinformatics and genomics, fostering collaboration, innovation, and scientific discovery.
The conference was addressed to bioinformatics researchers and professionals from academia and industry, data scientists and computational biologists, healthcare and pharmaceutical industry experts, policymakers and ethicists interested in the societal impact of bioinformatics, targeting also trainers and educators in bioinformatics, students and early-career researchers seeking to advance their knowledge.
Thus, in addition to the extraordinary opportunity for researchers, professors, students and doctoral candidates to learn about new developments in the field of bioinformatics and genomics, the event represented an excellent opportunity for the exchange of ideas, collaboration and networking between specialists in the field.
Key topics of the conference
- AI & Machine Learning in Bioinformatics – Leveraging computational intelligence for predictive modeling, disease diagnostics, and biomarker discovery;
- Integrative Multi-Omics Approaches – Harnessing genomics, transcriptomics, proteomics, and metabolomics to decode complex biological systems;
- Advancing Romanian Bioinformatics & Genomics – Highlighting national initiatives, research infrastructure, and opportunities for students and early-career scientists to engage in flagship projects such as ROGEN, BIOINNOVATE, and the Romanian Bioinformatics Cluster;
- Ethics, Data Privacy & Open Science – Addressing the challenges of data security, responsible AI, and equitable access in large-scale genomic studies;
- Bioinformatics Education & Career Development – Defining the skills, training pathways, and career opportunities that will shape Romania’s bioinformatics ecosystem.
The conference program was structured in:
- Preconference Workshop: April 2nd at “Dimitrie Brândză” Botanical Garden, Bucharest
- Conference Days: April 3rd & 4th at Faculty of Medicine, “Carol Davila” University of Medicine and Pharmacy, and Faculty of Biology, University of Bucharest
