Through the ”Virtute et Sapientia” Foundation, the University of Bucharest is launching a support campaign for Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv, in response to the severe challenges caused by the ongoing war. The initiative seeks to help ensure the continuity of teaching and research under extremely difficult conditions.
The campaign focuses on collecting essential electrical and electronic equipment – such as power banks, cables, portable batteries, voltage stabilizers, and generators – needed to conduct classes, hold examinations, and sustain academic activities safely in the face of frequent power outages.
Equipment donations can be dropped off at the Faculty of Sociology and Social Work (ground floor, Room 004, 90–92 Panduri Avenue, District 5, Bucharest). Contact person: Ștefania Decu, phone: +40 766 457 842, e-mail: stefania.decu@s.unibuc.ro
Those who wish to support the initiative financially may also donate to the Virtute et Sapientia Foundation of the University of Bucharest. Every contribution is transformed into energy, light, and continuity for students and academic staff working under extremely challenging circumstances. Donations can be made to the following BRD bank accounts: RON: RO57BRDE410SV69608784100, EUR: RO84BRDE410SV84148544100, USD: RO89BRDE410SV84296854100. Please include “Support for the University of Kyiv” in the payment details.
In a time marked by uncertainty, education remains a vital source of stability and hope. For students and faculty in Ukraine, access to electricity is more than a matter of infrastructure, it enables learning to continue, connections to remain open, and the academic mission to endure.
This campaign is addressed to members of the academic community, institutional partners, and all those who wish to help by donating functional equipment or supporting the collection and distribution efforts. Everyone is invited to join this initiative and help sustain education as an expression of resilience and continuity, even in the most challenging circumstances.
“Education does not stop in the face of adversity. As a university, we believe it is our responsibility to stand by our academic partners and to contribute in concrete ways to keeping the light of education alive,” said Marian Preda, PhD, Rector of the University of Bucharest.
Through this campaign, the University of Bucharest reaffirms its commitment to international academic solidarity and to the core values of the academic community: responsibility, cooperation, and mutual support.
