Between June 4–6, 2025, the University of Lille (France) hosted the annual conference and General Assembly meeting of EUCEN – the European University Continuing Education Network. The event took place at the Learning and Innovation Center of the University of Lille.

A full member of EUCEN since 2024, the University of Bucharest was represented by Professor Lucian Ciolan, PhD, Vice-Rector for Development Projects and Lifelong Learning and Professor of Education Policy and Research in Education.
The 55th edition of the event was held under the title Enhancing University Lifelong Learning Culture in Europe, bringing together representatives of numerous member institutions.
This year’s conference focused on exploring how universities can contribute to building sustainable lifelong learning ecosystems, capable of coherently and effectively connecting all involved stakeholders – from private and public organizations, national and regional authorities, companies, and educational systems, to students, citizens, and wider communities. A key theme of the discussions was the development of national and European-level strategies to ensure equitable and inclusive access to education for all across Europe.
In this context, participants presented, discussed, and exchanged experiences on lifelong learning policies, practices, and projects involving higher education institutions or their national networks. They also examined EUCEN’s contributions to shaping and influencing European and global lifelong learning policies.
Notably, the CIVIS Alliance was represented by delegates from institutions such as Université Libre de Bruxelles (ULB), the University of Glasgow, and the University of Lausanne.
Additionally, during the elections held at the General Assembly, Pascal Paschoud (UNIL) was reconfirmed for a new term as EUCEN President, and Christelle de Beys (ULB) was elected as a member of the Steering Committee.
