On Tuesday, 21 October 2025, Science|Business, in partnership with the University of Montenegro, the POLICY ANSWERS Project, the EIT Community, and the COST Association, will organize the conference “From Knowledge to Impact: Nurturing Research and Innovation in Southeast Europe.”
The event will bring together research and innovation (R&I) experts from various international public and private organizations and institutions.
The University of Bucharest (UB) will be represented by Assoc. Prof. Sorin Costreie, PhD, President of the Network of Universities from the Capitals of Europe (UNICA), CIVIS Alliance Coordinator at UB, and faculty member of the Faculty of Philosophy.
Assoc. Prof. Sorin Costreie will participate in the panel discussion entitled “Nurturing Research and Innovation in the ERA.”
With the implementation of the new European Research Area (ERA) Policy Agenda for 2025–2027 and the upcoming proposal for the European Union’s Framework Programme for Research and Innovation – Horizon Europe 2028–2034, designed to complement national efforts through EU-level funding mechanisms, this session will explore the opportunities and challenges that the integration process brings for the Southeast European region.
The conference aims to examine how research and innovation can contribute to strengthening the EU enlargement process and advancing the integration of Southeast and Eastern European countries into the European Research, Innovation, and Education Area.
In a context marked by geopolitical instability, economic challenges, and an increasing need for resilience, the event will highlight the crucial role of science and innovation in supporting transformation and sustainable development across the region.
Throughout the discussions, participants will analyze opportunities and challenges linked to regional cooperation and participation in European research and innovation programmes, as well as ways in which EU instruments can generate greater local impact.
The debates will also feature concrete success stories in the R&I field, focusing on innovative policies, strategic partnerships, and best practices that can accelerate the region’s integration into European research and innovation initiatives.
The full conference programme is available here, and additional information about the event can be found on the Science|Business website.
