Students from the University of Bucharest delivered outstanding performances at the National University Karate Championship, held on Saturday, March 21, 2026, at the “Elite” Sports Hall in Bucharest. The competition brought together around 70 students from 18 universities across the country.
The University of Bucharest ranked second nationwide in total medals won, once again confirming its strong tradition of excellence – not only academically, but also in sports.

Among the top performers was Coman Maria Cristina, a third-year student at the Faculty of Letters, who claimed first place in Women’s Kumite (+68 kg). She was joined at the top of the podium by Andrei Lorelley–Anisia, a second-year student at the Faculty of Sociology, who secured first place in Women’s Kumite (–55 kg).
Other notable results include Bănescu Michelle, a second-year student at the Faculty of Psychology, who earned third place in Women’s Kata, and Tiron Laura-Maria, a first-year student at the Faculty of Political Science, who took third place in Women’s Kumite (+68 kg).
These achievements once again highlight the University of Bucharest’s commitment to supporting student performance beyond the classroom.
Through their consistent presence on the podium, these students demonstrate that athletic excellence can go hand in hand with academic success, fostering discipline, ambition, and team spirit along the way.
