Between May 8–10 2025, students from the Faculty of Mathematics and Computer Science at the University of Bucharest participated in the national stage of the “Traian Lalescu” National Student Competition, which took place at the Maritime University of Constanța.
The event was held under the patronage of the “Traian Lalescu” Foundation and supported by the Ministry of Education and Research. It highlighted the talent, dedication, and scientific-cultural legacy of the renowned mathematician.
The top places in Section A – for Mathematics Faculty students in their first and second years – were taken by students from the Faculty of Mathematics and Computer Science at the University of Bucharest, who achieved outstanding results.
In this year’s competition, the following UB Mathematics students were awarded: first prize (with a perfect score) – Cezar Tulceanu, second prize – Dacian Robu, third prize – Ana Negoiță, honourable mentions – Ștefan Ghinescu, Claudiu Blindu, certificate of participation – Vlad Perpelea.
Participants had four hours to solve four problems, each worth a maximum of 10 points.
The “Traian Lalescu” competition has a long-standing tradition in Romanian education. It was first organized in 1962 and was interrupted between 1989 and 1996. Since 2008, with the support of the “Traian Lalescu” Foundation, it has been held at the national level.
Traian Lalescu (1882–1929), an eminent mathematician, professor, engineer, and academician, taught at the Faculty of Sciences at the University of Bucharest and played an important role in the founding of the Gazeta Matematică. He authored works that paved new new paths in the mathematical literature.
