Between 26 and 29 May 2026, the University of Bucharest hosted the 18th edition of the International Conference Qualitative and Quantitative Methods in Libraries – QQML 2026, a conference dedicated to promoting theory and practice in libraries, information services, museums, and archives. The topics addressed annually within the conference cover cutting-edge issues in the fields of Library and Information Science and Communication Sciences.
Over the years, the conference has been hosted by prestigious European universities such as Sapienza University of Rome (2013), University of London (2016), European University Institute, Florence (2019), and University of Lisbon (2025), among others.
In 2026, QQML came to the University of Bucharest, marking the first time that Romania has hosted an international conference of such scale in the field of Library and Information Science (LIS), attended by so many LIS specialists from abroad, representing such a large number of countries and institutions.
The general theme of this year’s edition of the conference was: Participating in, Collaborating, Entertaining: Humankind in the Future Library.
Over the course of four days, participants explored current topics such as Artificial Intelligence: Benefits and Challenges for Libraries, The Library of the Future, The Impact of Library Support on Education and Research, Information Literacy, Library Management, Collections and Content, and Library Users.
The event included five plenary sessions, more than 70 papers presented in parallel sessions, special sessions, a workshop, and a poster session.
This year’s edition brought together participants from over 30 countries – professors, researchers, directors of university libraries, information specialists, communication specialists, librarians, and PhD candidates – who gathered to discuss cutting-edge topics in the field of Library and Information and Communication Sciences and to share perspectives and best practices from libraries and other information and documentation structures.
The co-organizers of this year’s edition were Dr Anthi Katsirikou, initiator of the conference in 2009, Director of the University of Piraeus Library and President of the Association of Greek Librarians and Information Scientists, and Octavia-Luciana Madge, Associate Professor within the Department of Communication Sciences, Faculty of Letters.
