On Friday, October 6, 2023, the State University of Moldova (USM) hosted the launch event of the “Pastoral work and liturgical life” master’s degree, organized as an extension of the “Justinian Patriarch” Faculty of Orthodox Theology of the University of Bucharest in Chisinau.
The event was attended by the rector of the University of Bucharest, prof. Marian Preda, PhD, the dean of the “Justinian Patriarch” Faculty of Orthodox Theology of the University of Bucharest, prof. Constantin Preda, PhD, as well as teaching staff of the University of Bucharest who had a dialogue with the students on the process of master’s degree.
The event took place from 12:30, in the “Regina Maria” Hall of the State University of Moldova (A. Mateevici str., 60, Blocul Central, first floor).
The University of Bucharest offers for the master’s degree “Pastoral work and liturgical life” educational plans, support for courses, seminars and laboratories, teaching staff and part of the necessary logistics, all identical to those for the similar study program carried out within the “Justinian Patriarch” Faculty of Orthodox Theology in Bucharest.
“For me it is a great honor, a joy and a special personal satisfaction to be here today, at the academic opening of the master’s program in theology, the first in the Republic of Moldova. I want to thank Rector Igor Sharov and the USM Senate for supporting the implementation of this master’s program. The same master’s program of the Faculty of Theology in Bucharest runs simultaneously in Chisinau, Bucharest and Rome”, stated prof. Marian Preda, PhD.The rector of USM, assoc. prof. Igor Sharov, PhD, emphasized the importance of theology in social life, talking about the connection of spiritual topic with other fields of research.
At the same time, the State University of Moldova will provide the location for the educational process (classrooms, seminar rooms, laboratories, library, sports hall, festive hall), as well as its own teaching staff, established annually according to the content of the plans of education and the number of enrolled students.
Master’s degree program “Pastoral work and liturgical life”40 students are enrolled in the program “Pastoral work and liturgical life” within the Faculty of Orthodox Theology of the State University of Moldova. For two years, they will have the opportunity to deepen their knowledge on the practical side of Orthodox theology. Among them are aspects related to catechetics, homiletics, canon law and liturgy.
