The Faculty of Journalism and Communication Sciences and the Faculty of Law of the University of Bucharest organized, between 24 and 25 April 2023, a series of events on the occasion of World Book and Copyright Day (April 23) and World Intellectual Property Day (April 26). The events were part of the series of activities organized by the Working Group on Intellectual Property Issues, under the coordination of the Prosecutor’s Office attached to the High Court of Cassation and Justice, and were held under the general patronage of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) and of the national coordinator in the field of intellectual property, conf. Sorin Costreie, PhD.
The Faculty of Journalism and Communication Sciences of the University of Bucharest organized on Monday, April 24, at the headquarters of the University, with the support of the Association of Students in Communication (ASC), “Copyright Day at FJSC”, an event dedicated to respecting copyright in the career of journalist, specialist in PR, communication, marketing and advertising, as well as content creator.
The event brought together, among the speakers, the federal prosecutor and coordinator of the International Computer Hacking and Intellectual Property Attorney in the U.S. Department of Justice, Nathan Brooks, president of the Romanian Transmedia Audit Bureau (BRAT), Dragoș Stanca, publisher of ZYX Publishing Group (HotNews.ro, B365.ro, etc.), Răzvan Ionescu, photojournalist and coordinator of Inquam Photos, Octav Ganea, head of International Relations and Projects of the Romanian Copyright Office (ORDA), Cristian Florescu, and the lawyer specialized in copyright issues, Ștefan Bogrea. On behalf of the University of Bucharest, the vice-rector for University Networks and Public Relations and the national coordinator in the field of intellectual property, conf. Sorin Costreie, PhD, and the teaching staff of the Faculty of Journalism and Communication Sciences lect. Anamaria Nicola, PhD, and lect. Bogdan Oprea, PhD.
“Copyright Day at FJSC” included trainings and workshops in which members of the academic community of the University of Bucharest, students, professors and researchers, learned information on how they can use and, above all, how they can recognize that images on the Internet are authentic, debated key concepts and legal theories in intellectual property, discussed case studies on copyright law, and focused on the importance of copyright in the age of emerging technologies and artificial intelligence.
The Faculty of Law of the University of Bucharest organized, between 24 and 25 April 2023, together with the National Institute of Magistracy (INM) and the Romanian Copyright Office (ORDA), an event dedicated to World Intellectual Property Day, the conference “Intellectual property: from protection of rights to awareness of their importance”. The event, which took place at the premises of the Faculty of Law, included presentations from Romanian, European and North American criminal investigation and prosecution institutions and analyzed cases of infringements of intellectual property rights. During the two days of the event, the federal prosecutor and coordinator of the International Computer Hacking and Intellectual Property Attorney from the U.S. Department of Justice, Nathan Brooks, director of the United States Patent and Trademarks Office in the U.S. Mission to the European Union Brussels, Rachel Bae, and Program Officer of the World Intellectual Property Organization (Section for Central European and Baltic States and Mediterranean Countries), Ryszard Frelek gave speeches.
On behalf of the University of Bucharest, the event brought together the vice-rector for University Networks and Public Relations and the national coordinator in the field of intellectual property, prof. Sorin Costreie, PhD, vice-dean of the Faculty of Law lect. Daniela Deteșanu, PhD, and lect. Vladimir Florin Diaconiță, PhD, from the same faculty, as well as from the Faculty of Philosophy, lect. Laurentiu Gheorghe, PhD.
They were joined, among others, by the prosecutor from the Oradea Court of Appeal, the representative of Romania at the European Observatory on Infringements of Intellectual Property Rights, Monica Pop, and the deputy director of the National Institute of Magistracy, Viorel Badea. The event was also attended by lawyers, directors, writers, philosophers and representatives of other professional categories in the field of intellectual property, in all its dimensions, including economic, legal and cultural.
