Between March 14–16, 2025, the National University Athletics Championship took place in Bacău, with students from the University of Bucharest proudly showing up and taking part in this year’s edition.
The University of Bucharest was represented on the podium by Adina Ionela Fîrțală, who earned the title of national university champion in the shot put event.
Adina Ionela Fîrțală is a first-year student at the Faculty of Mathematics and Computer Science, specializing in Mathematics.
With a throw of 13.23 meters, Adina secured first place, demonstrating both strength and dedication. Her result reaffirms the level of performance achieved by student-athletes at our university and highlights the complementary nature of academic and athletic excellence. As the Department of Physical Education and Sports at the University of Bucharest (DEFS UB) notes: “Mathematics + Athletics = The Formula for success!”
Adina is proof that academic excellence can go hand in hand with athletic achievement:
“I dedicate a lot of time to training, with two sessions a day, each lasting about an hour and a half to three hours. I try to organize my schedule in a way that allows me to manage everything. I truly believe that sports and school can go together. I did the same in high school, where I graduated with a 9.01 average. I’m proud of that achievement, and of the fact that I’m now a student at the Faculty of Mathematics and Computer Science. The medal I brought home for the University of Bucharest motivates me to keep improving, and next year, I hope to be the national university champion again, with an even better result,” she said.
The University of Bucharest remains committed to supporting high-performing student-athletes and promoting a balanced approach to academic and athletic achievement.
