What Are BIPs?
Going beyond traditional courses, Blended Intensive Programmes (BIPs) represent a new format of Erasmus+ mobility. Each BIP combines online learning with a short physical mobility at another CIVIS member university in a different country.
Students begin with a virtual learning phase, followed by a five-day in-person session abroad, offering a unique opportunity to learn alongside professors and peers from across the CIVIS Alliance – and beyond.
BIPs are designed to break disciplinary and geographical boundaries, bringing together students from diverse academic backgrounds and cultures to work on shared global challenges.
Why apply for a BIP?
Visiting another country to study with European peers – without additional financial costs – is one of the key advantages of participating in a BIP. These programmes offer a rich and rewarding international experience, combining academic learning, cultural exchange, and professional growth.
Whether you are an undergraduate, master’s, or doctoral student, you can now apply for up to two BIPs during this call, directly through the CIVIS portal.
Who can apply and how?
Each course has its own eligibility criteria, but most are taught in English, so a minimum level of English proficiency and relevant academic background is required.
For many BIPs, the selection process is based on the applicant’s CV and motivation letter, so students are encouraged to carefully prepare and tailor these documents.
Participation in a CIVIS BIP is academically recognized by all member universities and by the European Commission. Depending on the course and workload, students can earn between 3 and 9 ECTS credits.
Every successfully completed BIP will also be recorded in the student’s CIVIS Passport – an innovative tool that documents all CIVIS activities and learning experiences across Europe. The CIVIS Passport, awarded upon graduation, is one of the first instruments for recognizing learning achievements at a European level.
