University of Bucharest students interested in current issues related to climate change, environmental protection, and the energy transition are invited to apply for the Master’s programme in Transdisciplinary Studies of Climate, Environment and Energy (TRACEE), developed within the CIVIS European University Alliance. Applications are open until 16 February 2025.
TRACEE is an innovative programme coordinated by Stockholm University and jointly developed by all partner universities within the CIVIS Alliance. Its goal is to educate a new generation of specialists capable of understanding and addressing the complex challenges posed by climate change, energy transition, and sustainability.
Through its transdisciplinary approach, TRACEE integrates perspectives from the natural sciences, social sciences, and humanities, providing students with essential tools for analysing and solving today’s environmental and energy-related challenges.
The programme offers:
- An innovative core curriculum, delivered in the first semester at Stockholm University, focusing on the interconnections between climate, energy, and the environment;
- Nine specialization pathways (Environmental Humanities and Law, Energy and Matter, Environmental Risks and Mitigation, Global Change Biology, Societal Changes and Transdisciplinary Hotspots), allowing students to tailor their academic journey;
- A strong international dimension, with opportunities to study at up to three CIVIS member universities across Europe;
- A strong practical component, including internships, fieldwork activities, and the completion of a Master’s thesis (30 ECTS) with an emphasis on transdisciplinary approaches.
TRACEE graduates may pursue careers in areas such as:
- Policy development within governmental agencies;
- Research and innovation in the climate and energy sectors;
- Consultancy for environmental and sustainability-focused organizations;
- Management roles in international NGOs or global enterprises.
Among the application requirements are a Bachelor’s degree in the natural sciences, social sciences, or humanities, as well as a minimum B2 level of English, certified accordingly. The tuition fee for the full four semesters of the programme is €9,000.
