Climate change and, implicitly, environmental change as well as energy sources are one of the 5 major concerns of CIVIS. This is highlighted by the topics proposed within the new series of CIVIS Blended Intensive Programs (BIPs).
Thus, four courses on this subject await students interested in the effects but, above all, in the measures that can be taken so that these changes affect less and less not only humanity, but the entire planet:
- Regional climate change impact – cumulative effects and mitigation scenarios
- Natural Processes and Climate Risks (NatRisks)
- Bridging the gap between volcano-tectonics and geochemistry
- Climate and energy – An interdisciplinary perspective
They are joined by the Global Awareness micro-program, for which you can only sign up until September 30, 2023.
For the 4 BIPs, the application deadline is October 31, 2023. Being open to students from all 11 member universities of the Alliance, places for such a course are, by default, limited. Applications can be submitted on the CIVIS mobility platform, accessible through the program list, here.
Given that for most programs, selection is based on CV and cover letter, candidates are advised to pay particular attention to these documents. Also, a minimum B1 level of English is mandatory for all CIVIS BIPs, many of them also request a document certifying it.
Each BIP is developed, organized and taught by teaching staff from at least three CIVIS member universities and combines online teaching with 5 days of physical mobility in one of the countries of residence of the CIVIS member universities. This innovative format, which combines online sessions with face-to-face meetings, opens the way to new international study opportunities for CIVIS students. The period of physical mobility is financially supported from CIVIS funds, provided that the applicant does not simultaneously benefit from another Erasmus scholarship.
Built on the concept of academic excellence, this type of program breaks the boundaries of traditional subjects, cycles and fields of study, which guarantees participants a new vision on the debated topics.
Completion of a BIP is rewarded with 3-6 ECTS and mentioned in each participant’s CIVIS passport.
CIVIS is a European University Alliance that brings together 11 universities: Aix-Marseille Université (France), National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (Greece), University of Bucharest (Romania), Université Libre de Bruxelles (Belgium), Universidad Autónoma de Madrid (Spain), Sapienza Università di Roma (Italy), Stockholm University (Sweden), Eberhard Karls Universität Tübingen (Germany), University of Glasgow (UK), Paris Lodron University Salzburg (Austria) and University of Lausanne (Switzerland). Selected by the European Commission among the first 17 European pilot universities, the CIVIS Alliance brings together approximately half a million students and over 70,000 staff members, including 37,400 academics and researchers.
