327 national and international olympiad winners and sports champions chose UB
The 20 faculties of the University of Bucharest (UB) received over 48,000 applications during the July 2025 admission session for undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral programs, competing for more than 20,000 available spots. For undergraduate programs, the average competition across the university reached 5,74 applicants per tuition-free spot, while master’s programs recorded 2,54 applicants per spot, and the doctoral schools saw an average of 1,15 applicants per spot.
Among UB’s undergraduate offerings, the most competitive programs this July were: Applied Modern Languages (Faculty of Foreign Languages and Literatures): 32.2 applicants per spot, Psychology – Cognitive Sciences (Faculty of Psychology and Educational Sciences): 26.35 applicants per spot, Business Administration (Faculty of Administration and Business): 15.34 applicants per spot, Pharmaceutical Chemistry (Faculty of Chemistry): 14.12 applicants per spot
Other programs with over 12 applicants per spot included: Comparative and World Literature / Modern or Latin Languages and Literatures (Faculty of Letters): 12.71, Psychology (Faculty of Psychology and Educational Sciences): 12.58, Medical Chemistry (Faculty of Chemistry): 12.53, Marketing (Faculty of Administration and Business): 12.43, Technological Biochemistry (Faculty of Biology): 12.28, Information Technology (Faculty of Mathematics and Computer Science): 12.00.
The Faculty of Interdisciplinary Studies, Romania’s first faculty fully dedicated to interdisciplinary education, opened in the 2025–2026 academic year, recorded a competition rate of 7,28 applicants per tuition-free spot. This new faculty addresses the growing need to approach complex global challenges from multiple perspectives.
As in previous years, the University of Bucharest continues to attract a significant number of master’s candidates. The most competitive master’s programs were: Faculty of Psychology and Educational Sciences: 6,33 applicants per tuition-free spot, Faculty of Administration and Business: 5,15, Faculty of Mathematics and Computer Science: 3,39, Faculty of Geography: 3,34.
The university’s 25 doctoral schools, offering 340 tuition-free positions, reported an overall average of 1,15 applicants per spot.
The University of Bucharest, among the world’s top 25 universities for quality of education
Founded in 1864, the University of Bucharest has been part of the European Civic University Alliance (CIVIS) since 2019, alongside ten other prestigious European universities. UB is increasingly becoming a key player in shaping European higher education.
The 2025 edition of the Times Higher Education Impact Rankings, one of the top three most prestigious academic rankings worldwide assessing universities’ involvement in sustainable development, places the University of Bucharest first in Romania and 25th globally for quality of education. Moreover, UB ranks 93rd overall in the Impact Rankings 2025, marking a national milestone as the first Romanian university to enter the global top 100.
UB also reaffirms its leadership position in Romanian higher education according to the most recent edition of the QS World University Rankings 2026—also one of the top three academic rankings. Globally, the University of Bucharest ranks in the 761–770 band, showing a significant improvement from the previous 801–850 band, and achieving some of its best results in the last decade. Notably, UB excels in Employment Outcomes and Employer Reputation, confirming its ability to produce competitive, job-ready graduates. According to the latest data, 81.1% of UB graduates secure employment within 7–11 months after graduation.
Currently, the University of Bucharest is also ranked the best university in Romania for international students, according to the latest Study Abroad Aide’s World University Rankings, placing UB in the top 11% of universities worldwide for international students. Another recent ranking, the THE – Interdisciplinary Science Ranking 2025, places the University of Bucharest first nationally and among the top 350 globally for interdisciplinary scientific research.
