Lecture halls, amphitheaters, special guests, and events scheduled over several days
The 20 faculties of the University of Bucharest will begin the 2026–2027 academic year on Monday, September 28, 2026, with events bringing together students, professors, and guests from the academic and cultural communities.
The first opening ceremonies are scheduled for Monday, September 28, and events will continue through October 2, with each of the 20 faculties of the University of Bucharest organizing its academic year opening ceremony according to its own schedule.
The Faculty of Political Science will open the series of ceremonies on Monday, September 28, with an event held in the Magna Hall of the Faculty of Law, from 9:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
On Tuesday, September 29, 2026, the Faculty of Roman Catholic Theology will welcome students to the opening of the new academic year, beginning at 10:30 a.m. with Holy Mass at St. Joseph Cathedral (19 General H. M. Berthelot Street). The faculty’s Magna Hall (19 General H. M. Berthelot Street) will subsequently host the official opening ceremony.
The Faculty of Mathematics and Computer Science will hold its opening ceremony for the 2026–2027 academic year on the same day, Tuesday, September 29, in the Magna Hall of the Faculty of Law (36–46 Mihail Kogălniceanu Boulevard), beginning at 10:00 a.m.
Wednesday, September 30, 2026, will feature several events:
The Faculty of Biology will welcome students to the opening ceremony of the new academic year in the “D. Voinov” Amphitheater of the Faculty of Biology (91–95 Splaiul Independenței), beginning at 1:00 p.m.
The Faculty of Law will hold its opening ceremony for the 2026–2027 academic year in the faculty’s Magna Hall (36–46 Mihail Kogălniceanu Boulevard), beginning at 10:00 a.m. The ceremony will be attended by Prof. Marian Preda, PhD, Rector of the University of Bucharest; Assoc. Prof. Claudiu-Paul Buglea, PhD, President of the Senate of the University of Bucharest; as well as a number of diplomats, prominent figures from the legal field and related areas, and student representatives. The Faculty of Physics will welcome students to the opening ceremony of the new academic year in the “Horia Hulubei” Hall (405 Atomistilor Street, Măgurele), beginning at 10:00 a.m.
The Faculty of Geology and Geophysics will mark the beginning of the 2026–2027 academic year in the faculty’s “P. A. Ludovic Mrazec” Amphitheater (1 Nicolae Bălcescu Boulevard), beginning at 10:00 a.m. The event will be attended by Prof. Emil Constantinescu, PhD, former Dean of the Faculty of Geology and Geophysics, Rector of the University of Bucharest (1992–1996), and President of Romania (1996–2000); Prof. Carmen Chifiriuc, PhD, Vice-Rector of the University of Bucharest for Research; and Lia Roberts, Honorary Consul of Romania in Las Vegas.
Thursday, October 1, 2026, is the day on which the majority of the University of Bucharest’s faculties will organize events marking the opening of the new academic year 2025–2026:
The Faculty of Administration and Business will welcome students to the Magna Hall of the Faculty of Law (36–46 Mihail Kogălniceanu Boulevard), beginning at 10:00 a.m.
The Faculty of Chemistry will hold the opening ceremony for the 2026–2027 academic year in the “Nicolae Teclu” Amphitheater at the faculty’s headquarters (4–12 Regina Elisabeta Boulevard). The event will be attended by Prof. Marius Andruh, PhD, Academician and President of the Romanian Academy; Prof. Mihaela Hillebrand, PhD; Prof. Vasile Pârvulescu, PhD, Corresponding Members of the Romanian Academy; Prof. Victor David, PhD, Emeritus Professor and faculty member at the Faculty of Chemistry; and Prof. Carmen Chifiriuc, PhD, Vice-Rector of the University of Bucharest for Research.
The Faculty of Philosophy will organize its opening events in the faculty’s “Titu Maiorescu” Amphitheater (204 Splaiul Independenței), beginning at 10:00 a.m.
The Faculty of Psychology and Educational Sciences will hold its ceremony at the faculty’s headquarters at 90 Panduri Road, beginning at 11:00 a.m.
The Faculty of Interdisciplinary Studies will open the academic year in the “Ioan Mihăilescu” Amphitheater of the University Rectorate (90 Panduri Road), beginning at 1:00 p.m.
The Faculty of Sociology and Social Work will welcome students to its headquarters at 90 Panduri Road, beginning at 4:00 p.m.

The Faculty of Journalism and Communication Studies will organize the opening activities for the 2026–2027 academic year at the Radio Hall (60–64 General Berthelot Street), beginning at 12:00 p.m.
The “Justinian Patriarch” Faculty of Orthodox Theology will welcome students beginning at 8:30 a.m. at St. Catherine’s Church for the religious service, followed at 12:00 p.m. by the opening ceremony in the “I. G. Coman” Amphitheater (2–4 Sfânta Ecaterina Street). Assoc. Prof. Claudiu Paul Buglea, PhD, President of the University of Bucharest Senate, has announced his participation in the event.
The Faculty of Foreign Languages and Literatures will welcome students to the Students’ Cultural Center (61 Calea Plevnei), beginning at 9:30 a.m. The ceremony will be attended by Prof. Bogdan Ștefănescu, PhD, former Vice-Dean of the Faculty of Foreign Languages and Literatures and former Vice-Rector of the University of Bucharest; members of the faculty’s management; and representatives of the University of Bucharest’s leadership. The faculty will also organize opening events for the 2025–2026 academic year for each of the specializations it offers.
On Friday, October 2, 2026, students enrolled in the bachelor’s program in American Studies and those enrolled in the master’s program in American Studies are invited, beginning at 12:00 p.m., to the Martin Luther King Amphitheater (7–13 Pitar Moș Street) for the opening ceremony. Guests at the event will include Tabatha Fairclough, Cultural Attaché of the U.S. Embassy in Romania. Also on Friday, October 2, 2026, beginning at 10:00 a.m., the Korean Language and Literature bachelor’s program will hold its opening ceremony in the Martin Luther King Amphitheater (7–13 Pitar Moș Street), with His Excellency Hur Seung-Chul, Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to Romania, expected to attend. The Faculty of Geography will welcome students to the opening event for the new academic year in the Magna Hall of the Faculty of Law (36–46 Mihail Kogălniceanu Boulevard), beginning at 10:00 a.m. The event will be attended by representatives of the leadership of the University of Bucharest and the Faculty of Geography, as well as Cristina Petre-Ghiță, Deputy Inspector General at the Ilfov County School Inspectorate and a graduate of the Faculty of Geography. In her work as an inspector, she promotes the Faculty of Geography’s programs dedicated to pre-university students, such as the Faculty of Geography Caravan and the Faculty of Geography for Green Week Program.
Last but not least, the Focșani branch of the Faculty of Administration and Business will hold its opening ceremony for the 2026–2027 academic year at the “Maior G. Pastia” Municipal Theatre (77 Republicii Street), beginning at 10:30 a.m.
